Another long drive. Bloody hell, Western Australia is MASSIVE!
The soundtrack and singalong for the journey was provided by The Beatles in memory of Shirley, accompanied by rainbows appearing through the stormy black skies every way you looked. We took the Indian Ocean Drive to Geraldton, stopping at the Pinnacles Desert on the way.
The Pinnacles are a natural phenomenon that is still under debate as to its creation. Either it’s formed by remnants of seashell minerals, blown in from the ocean, or from plant or tree casts and some kind of scientific explanation involving precipitation, transpiration, calcrete, and carbonite. Either way, it’s stunning.
We were looked after by Universal energy today. It was rainy and dreary on the drive, but the sun poked through, giving us a rainbow at every turn. Magnificent. Then we were blessed with a break in the weather when we reached the Pinnacles so we could enjoy it in all its glory, with the most amazing backdrop of angry clouds and rainbows. Just magical.
Onwards to Oakabella Homestead for the night. Daph had wanted to stay here because of its haunted history. But due to the long day of driving, we arrived too late for a tour of the haunted house, much to Daph’s dismay, and Ern’s relief. Tomorrow, we move on further north, to Denham.
