Update, whilst we have phone service, to confirm we are still alive. Big day yesterday. Started with a surf at The Farm, Ern’s first bodyboard in three years. Popped into Kiama to see the blowhole and discovered a beautiful town where “The Brown Cardigan” would go off! Stopped for a swim at Chinaman’s Beach, with sand so white it looked like snow. Then took a picturesque drive to Mimosa Rocks National Park.

Things got a big hairy along the way as we got lost in the national park with no phone service, therefore no GPS, and 1976 windscreen wipers in torrential rain, on dirt tracks, with minimal petrol in the tank.

Just as Daph was feeling very responsible for our potential breakdown and imminent death due to her poor navigation skills, we bumped into the park ranger. He directed us to the most idyllic camping spot right on the beach with kangaroos on our doorstep. Redeemed.

Ailments of Ern:

1. Second-degree sunburn (a hazard for ginger gems).

2. Pinkeye (from swimming with your eyes open underwater).

3. Torso rash (bodyboarding bare-chested).

4. Inner thigh chafe (wet shorts post ocean swimming).

5. Mosquito bites to seventy-five percent of his body surface area.

6. “Kombi back” (unavoidable but soothed by back rubs).

Ailments of Daph:

1. A nice tan.
