Quirky and a Bit Creepy

It’s been a relatively “busy” week so far. Daph had eight (dead quiet) shifts in a row. Ern is working four days this week, having picked up yet another client. And we moved into a different bed-and-breakfast for three nights, a converted church, which is quirky and a bit creepy.

It’s been a logistical nightmare, trying to juggle Daph and Ern’s shifts with moving back and forth between the accommodation. But it’s kept us busy. This is good because Daph’s job is anything but busy. For eight hours a day, Daph is pulling her hair out. There is only so much filing of paperwork, reorganising the workstation, and checking the equipment trolley that a midwife can do before she goes stir-crazy.

On the upside, agency pay rates are fattening the bank balance nicely. There’s a slight sense of guilt for Daph, whose ex-work colleagues at home work ten times as hard for half as much money. It’s fleeting guilt. Fat bank balances enable more Kombi time. And Daph is counting down the days before hitting the road again.

Ern, however, is in his element, fixing up the negativity in this town, one person at a time. He thinks it’s a shame Daph doesn’t love it here, because we could be mortgage free here, it’s so cheap. There’s a reason it’s so cheap, Ern. Let’s just stack up the bank account and get out of here.
