Busy day travelling today from Airlie Beach to Townsville to catch the ferry to Magnetic Island.
We stopped briefly at Townsville to get the windscreen repaired by the lovely Gary, then had lunch overlooking the water. Townsville is beautiful. We may have to stop by for a bit longer one day. Then the Kombi hopped on a boat for the short journey across to Magnetic Island.
We are here for two nights to check out all the sights. We arrived too late to do any exploring today. We have set up camp for the night right next door to Mr. Koala, whose mating calls sound like an angry bear growling and scared the life out of Daph. We are currently soaking up the abundance of noisy wildlife... birds chattering, bats flying overhead, koalas growling, wallabies rustling in the bushes... and European backpackers playing bingo and getting drunk in the distance.
Tomorrow, we are hiring a four-wheel-drive buggy and snorkel gear to explore the island. Daph has been itching to drive (Damn those short legs that can’t reach the Kombi pedals). The mini four-by-four should be a breeze for a short arse.
Snorkelling? Not so easy, as Daph is a nose breather.
