Let’s hit the road! After months of pimping, the Kombi is taking her first proper maiden voyage. We’re quitting life as we know it for twelve days on the road, a taster trip of what is to come, checking out this great southern land.
Our alter egos Daph and Ern, the old cranky couple we aspire to be in our retirement, will be getting a look in on the journey…
“Let me try” … “Just let me DO IT!”
*Ern takes a deep breath and pinches his forehead in utter despair.

Well, we survived our first night in the wilderness. We had a few teething problems, being amateur campers…
We forgot to use insect repellent before going for a bushwalk to the beach and abandoned said walk due to Ern being a five-course gourmet meal for the mosquitos… there followed a swift turnaround and brisk walk back to the Kombi. Ern doing the arm and leg flailing jiggle-run. Daph trying hard to keep up behind, covering his back with karate blows to the mozzies viciously attacking from the rear like cowards. Instead, we spent the night in the Kombi, singing along to Spandau Ballet’s greatest hits and playing trivia games. This is the life.
Today we are off to Killalea Farm markets, hoping to find some hand-crafted tea towels because baby wipes just aren’t cutting it (as I said, amateur campers). It’s proving to be a great learning curve, and by the time we set off on our big trip next year we are hoping to be experts.
Loving the Kombi life.
