Kuranda

Ellis Beach. Another absolute beachfront caravan park, where the only sea you can see is the sea of Grey Nomad Caravans.

This place would be stunning if they didn’t pack everyone in like sardines. Who knows how they manoeuvre their sixteen-foot motor homes into these tiny little spaces? Ern had trouble getting the turning circle to back the Kombi in! Still, it was just a pit stop, after a lovely day riding the scenic railway up to Kuranda and the Skyrail back down...

Kuranda is a cute little village in the rainforest. We might have missed it if we didn’t battle on through the cheesy touristy markets and souvenir shops selling everything from penis-shaped soaps to kangaroo testicle cigarette lighters. Push through this absolute tosh and you find the real village, a maze of backstreet vendors and cafés set amongst the rainforests.

Daph bought yet more hippy pants, loving the feeling of wearing nothing at all. The nether regions need a good airing in the humidity up here.

Ern eyed up a funky linen shirt...

Daph: “What are you thinking?”

Ern: “I’m just thinking about how far away from wearing linen I am. It seems very comfortable.”

Ern bought the funky linen shirt. He’s just one step away from shopping at Lowes[1].

Onwards to Cape Tribulation. Ern just found out we have to put the Kombi on the Daintree Ferry and cross crocodile-infested waters. Daph kept that little gem quiet.
