Kangaroo Island is a fantastic place to visit. Although two-thirds of the island has been devastated by the bushfires, there is still so much to see and do. And the community needs your input. So, book your next holiday here, guys! The kids will love you for it.
Kangaroo Island has beautiful landscapes, stunning beaches, and wildlife galore. There’s quad biking, fat biking, and e-biking. Sandboarding, dolphin swims, and seal encounters. This island has everything. Except for four-wheel-drives to hire, as Magnetic Island does. There’s a market for it. Most of the roads are unsealed, so we were limited to where we could go in the Kombi. But that didn’t stop us from having a fantastic day.
We started by exploring Vivonne Bay, which is breathtaking despite the burnt landscape and the smell of charcoal in the air. Then we had a go at sandboarding and tobogganing in the Little Sahara sand dunes.
Ern was about as successful on the sandboard as he is on a skateboard. He thinks he’s “all that” but his tricks were average at best. And Daph should stick to the toboggan. She had a go at sandboarding, but her centre of gravity judgment is out of whack. She believes her bottom carries more weight than it does and overcompensates by leaning too far forward. Subsequently, Daph ended up with more sand in her wazoo than there was water in it yesterday. We failed dismally but had a blast in the process. So much fun!
Then to Seal Bay, the largest natural breeding colony for Australian sea lions. We were privileged to witness the mummy seals breastfeeding their pups and teaching them how to surf the waves. Totes adorbs.
Tomorrow, we head back to the mainland.
