Daph and Ern are master manifestors. Daph read “The Secret” and it has become our motto to “ask, believe, receive.” All our travel plans start with a desire, and a trust that everything will work out. Then miraculously, they come to fruition. As mentioned before, the major goal of visiting Western Australia was to go to Rottnest Island. But when we arrived in Esperance, that was off the cards due to COVID. Daph never gave up. She visualised riding her bike around the island, stopping off for cute quokka selfies... and felt the good feels that went along with it. Even though the authorities originally stated the island wouldn’t reopen until the following year, Daph never lost hope.

Daph: *Sitting on the toilet, checking her emails (as you do), “Oh my gosh!!”

Ern: “What?!” *Poking his head around the door.

Daph: “ROTTNEST ISLAND IS OPEN!!”

Daph didn’t take long to book a weekend at the Couples Retreat on Rottnest Island and hire bikes ready for a quokka frenzy. Now, all we have to do is wait another four weeks before we can get there. So, with two weeks to go here in beautiful Esperance, what better way to while away the days than to take the Kombi back to Lucky Bay? This time, we made sure we brought our hiking boots.

Today we climbed Frenchman’s Peak. Daph was super proud of Ern, who poo-poohed his vertigo and made it to the (almost) top of the mountain to take in the views from the magnificent “sea cave.” It was once an underwater cave a mere sixty-odd-million years ago! Daph continued alone to the peak for the panoramic views. Ern’s poor knees had taken too much of a hammering from falling to them one too many times, so he waited in the cave.

Tonight, we once again snuggle to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. Blu Tack in place, just in case. Tomorrow, we tackle the bushwalk to Thistle Cove and Hellfire Bay.
