Dubbo

Last night on the road...

Today was tough driving in torrential rain. We could hardly see ten metres in front of us, not that there’s much to see in outback NSW. But still, there were idiots on the road, evidenced by the three-car pile-up coming into Dubbo.

Due to our multiple changes of plans, and cancellations of caravan park bookings because of our breakdown and COVID restrictions, we had a bit of credit with Discovery Parks[1]to use up. The bubbly lady behind the counter at Dubbo Caravan Park greeted us with a cheerful,

“Hi guys, are you checking in?”

To which Daph explained the credit situation and replied,

“Give us the most luxurious cabin you have.”

Daph and Ern have decided to treat themselves for the last night on the road. Daph feels bad for the old Kombi after all the hard yards she’s put in, leaving her outside in the cold rain again! Ern will spoil her with a spit and polish up, and yet another service when we get home.

She’s done us proud. What a trooper.

Tonight, we snuggle up in central-heated comfort on the leather lounge watching movies in a luxury cabin that is posher than our house. We will sleep in a king-size bed for the first time in six months.

And tomorrow we sadly go home.

[1] Discovery Parks is the company that owns all the caravan parks we had booked to stay in. They held our payments in credit for future bookings.
