Broken Hill

Today brings us back to New South Wales with absolutely no bother at all. Again, there was no one at the border to check us out, so we just breezed on in.

The journey started off beautifully, driving through the Flinders Ranges. Ern didn’t complain about the uphill drive along the winding roads. He was just grateful for something other than straight roads and the barren landscape of late.

Oops. Spoke too soon. Half an hour into outback NSW, and that’s all there was. Straight roads and barren landscape. Even less to look at than across the Nullarbor, if that’s possible. But with goats. So that’s different, at least.

Tonight, we are staying in Broken Hill. But before checking into the caravan park, we visited the fantastic little town of Silverton. It has so much history and quirkiness, complete with its own wild donkeys! The museums here are much more fun than those we have seen lately, with the highlight being the Mad Max Museum[1].

Broken Hill has a lot more to offer than we had expected. It’s a shame we only have one night here. They are always looking for midwives here, so who knows? We may return.

[1] A collection of all the cars and props used in the Mad Max movies. The second movie was filmed in Silverton.
