Aussie World!

Today we left the serenity of our log cabin behind and went to... Aussie World! An old-time theme park, completely out of the league with the modern-day offerings. Not one roller coaster in sight, just old-school fairground rides and bumper cars. But because of this, we didn’t have to fight through crowds of kids to get on any rides.

There was hardly anyone there, and Daph wondered how the place stays afloat. Still, we had a great time. We had so much fun in Professor Bogglesworth’s Illusionarium, where we had a blast with the assault on our senses. And then there was Mayhem Maze, a horror-themed walk-through attraction...

We entered, ten patrons at a time, and had to walk through the dark maze in a single file with our hands on the shoulders of the person in front. Daph went first because everyone was too scared to be at the front. She had to hold her hands behind her back, having no one in front of her to put her hands on. This rule was non-negotiable. It was enforced to prevent us from acting impulsively and punching a zombie in the face as they jumped out on us from behind a door. We were jovially threatened with immediate eviction from the park should we deviate from these rules.

Daph walked slowly to ensure everyone got to enjoy the scary delights of each room. But the queue of people behind was in such a hurry to get through, scared that someone was going to jump out on the back of the conga line. Out of sync, the back of the line had a knock-on effect. Ern kept getting pushed forward into Daph, catching his feet on hers and knocking her shoes off. Daph had to break the rules, releasing her hands from behind her back to sort out her shoeless predicament in the dark. She announced loudly to the showrunners, “I’m not attacking anyone! I’m just putting my shoes back on!” (not keen on getting evicted for being a rule breaker) ... just as a zombie jumped out on her from behind a door!

He’s lucky to have not got a shoe to the side of his head!

Big shout out to the employee who played both Professor Bogglesworth, and a zombie in Mayhem Maze. He loves his job and was bloody good at it too. Daph feels that this could be something she could add to her resume in the future.

And so, back to the log cabin retreat for a relaxing evening. The country road drive was the closest thing to a roller coaster Daph would get today. Especially when Ern didn’t notice the speed hump in the road and “got air” in the Kombi. Dukes of Hazzard eat your heart out.
